Currently collecting food for TOTS

The AHS Theatre Production Company is open to all students at Alice High School. It is more than just putting on plays! By participating in Drama Club students build lifelong bonds and skills as they experience a world full of challenges and rewards. I am proud to announce that in 2014 the Drama Club collected 30,699.5 lbs of food for the Alice Food Pantry! We placed FIRST in the nation in the TOTS Food Drive Sponsored by Educational Theatre Association!

New York City

Members of the Drama Club travel all over the place! One of their favorite places to go is New York City. While there, they attend 3-4 Broadway shows and participate in acting workshops at various campuses around the city. Some of their favorite sites to see are Top of the Rock, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, and the Metropolitan Museum. They also visit Ground Zero, Wall Street, and lots of other tourist sites, including the Bronx Zoo. Plans are underway for them to travel to NYC in the summer of 2017.

Activities

There is a lot more to Drama Club then just putting on plays and doing community service! We attend workshops, take field trips, have banquets, and of course have parties!

Drama Club Wish List

Help us make the magic ...

“As in a theatre, the eyes of men, after a well-graced actor leaves the stage, are idly bent on him that enters next.”

~ William Shakespeare

2015 was a very exciting year for the Drama Club. We came in first in the nation in the TOTS food drive sponsored by the Educational Theatre Association! We moved into a new classroom; it is the old TV Studio that we now call the Theatre Complex. Plans are underway to renovate the old Little Theatre and turn it back into a performance venue. We already got some new lighting for the stage!  Last year we had a fabulous production ofThe Women of Lockerbie and Almost Maine.  We also did Maelstrom for UIL competition and performed Love of Three Oranges at the International Thespian Festival. On top of all that, the students also went on a trip to Nebraska and NYC during the summer!

It has been a long time since we had extra money budgeted that we could use to buy tools and supplies for our productions. We use our activity account every year to help with One Act Play costumes, props, and set pieces. Each year we share our wish list with parents and friends. This year I would like to also share it with you! Please check the list below and see if there is anything you can contribute to help us make our magic happen!

  • Portable costume racks
  • Hammers
  • Drills
  • Screwdrivers

Theatre is one of the best-kept secrets in our community. I am a very strong advocate for theatre in our schools because it offers so much for our students. Few people realize that it is the one course that incorporates everything we try to teach our students into one fantastic experience. What other teacher can get her students to memorize a book in just a couple of weeks? Theatre gives them a place to belong, a purpose to come to school, and a reason to get good grades. We teach them about teamwork, responsibility, commitment, and working with others they might not normally have met. Theatre students come away from our program knowing they can fulfill the dream and make the magic happen….

Community Service

Each month the Drama Club has some sort of Community Service project. This August we had a Back to School Supply Drive. September and October we will be collecting food for the Alice Food Pantry.....
