Teen of the Week


Stacey Hinojosa

Parents: Marie Lopez and Julio Hinojosa

Stacey plans to attend The Arts Institutes of San Antonio and earn a 4 year bachelor's degree in Culinary. She has always enjoyed cooking, and at The Art Institutes they have hands on experience in the kitchen; along with an actual job on campus that will pay her for cooking.

Stacey has been in tennis all four years of high school, this year Stacey has taken 3rd place twice, and 1st place consolation. Stacey enjoys being in Student Council as well. This year is her first year in the Spanish Club and it has been quite an experience. Art Club brings Stacey much joy and students take pride in their work, in some eyes others might not see what Art Club members see but art comes in many forms. Stacey has been a member of the National Honor Society since sophomore year. This year is her final year and will receive a white collar.

In tennis, Stacey has received 3rd place twice and 1st place consolation and fought hard to earn these medals. Although she may have not of gotten 1st or 2nd in pros, Stacey was grateful to even receive a medal. Stacey also received an award for the National Honor Society for most hours out of the whole organization.

Favorites:

Food: The best place to eat Chinese food is the one and only Pandas, sadly it closed recently.

Book: Fault in our Stars, I’ll admit I love sad books it just has that reality feeling how hard life really is for some people and how they can get through things.

Movie: If I Stay, I love the storyline and especially the soundtrack.

Town: San Antonio, there is so much life and energy all over town.

Vacation Spot: Lake Mathis, I love going camping, being outdoors when the sun rises and watching it when it falls, especially enjoying the fresh air.

 

Ben Salinas
Parents: Ben and Cassandra Salinas
 

Ben plans to attend either Texas State or the University of the Incarnate Word to study political science and pre-law. After graduating, Ben plans on attending law school to further his education and prepare for a future career as a politician.

 

Ben is a member of the AHS National Honor Society, Yearbook, International Thespian Society, and holds the position of Arts Administrator of the Drama Club.

 

Ben's accomplishments and honors include receiving a Division I on his solo & ensemble performance freshman and sophomore year. During his sophomore year, Ben was inducted into the National Honor Society and the following year was inducted into the International Thespian Society. During Ben's junior year of high school at the One Act Play (OAP) competition, he received an award for being the “best techie” from AHS school’s OAP team.

Tiffany's future plans include attending college at Texas A&M University Kingsville for a bachelor degree in elementary education and eventually obtain a master's degree.

 

Tiffany is a member of the Alice High School Band and is a Clarinet player, a NHS Member, Student Council Parliamentarian, Yearbook, and

PALS Program.

 

Tiffany's accomplishments and honors include 4 year All‐Region Band, Clarinet Section Leader, 2013‐2014 State Marching Competition, 2 year NHS Member, 3 year Student Council Officer, 2014 Carnegie Hall Performance and a 3 year Southern Pride Strutter.

Paige plans on attending Lamar University in the Fall of 2016 to major in ASL (American Sign Language).
 

Paige is a two year member of the National Honor Society and is currently NHS Historian. She is a four year band member and Drumline section leader. Paige is a member of Interact Club, and past member of Junior Class and Prom Crew along with PALS, boys soccer training, and Environmental Club.

Kathryn Colvin

Kathryn plans on attending Texas A&M University in College Station in the Fall of 2016 to study Political Science. After earning her degree, Kathryn hopes to be attending law school and following in the family footsteps to become a United States attorney.

 

Kathryn is a former member of Student Council and Environmental Club, and was inducted into National Honor Society at the end of her sophomore year. She was a member of the AHS marching band for freshman and sophomore years, and was a Drum

Major junior and senior years. Kathryn has also been a flute player in the Honors Band since she was a freshman.

 

Kathryn's accomplishments and honors include being named a Coyote Scholar in 2013 and a National History Day State Qualifier in 2014. In the 2013-2014 school year, Kathryn had the privilege of being a part of the state qualifying AHS marching band that competed in the preliminary competition at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. That same school year, Kathryn had the honor of performing at the most prestigious concert hall in the world, Carnegie Hall, with the AHS Honors band on May 23, 2014.

Jayme Rayne Reyna

Jayme plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in Biology to work towards her ultimate goal of attending and graduating from medical school.

 

Jayme is a two-year member of the National Honor Society at Alice High School and is the 2015-2016 Treasurer of the club. She is also an active member of Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA). In addition, Jayme has been a member of the Alice High

School Honors Band and Marching Band for four years. She also played volleyball and soccer as a freshman and sophomore.

 

Jayme's accomplishments and honors include being a four-year Coyote Scholar. She has also received numerous awards through band including being a part of the state-qualifying AHS Marching Band, being an All-District, All-Region, and Area Qualifier as an individual player, and performing at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York City with the AHS Honors Band. In addition, Jayme is a State Qualifier through HOSA and two-year National History Day Regional Qualifier. Jayme is also CNA and CPR Certified through the Health Science Program at Alice High School and Coastal Bend College.

Ysenia Idalia Montemayor

Parents: Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Montemayor

 

Ysenia will be attending Texas State University in San Marcos in the fall of 2016 pursuing a degree in rehabilitation therapy. She plans to become a Pediatric Physical Therapist and help children recover as soon as possible.

 

Ysenia is a 3 year varsity soccer player, 4 year member of the Alice High School Color Guard and held a captain position junior and senior year, a 2 year NHS Member and was appointed Parliamentarian senior year by her fellow officers. Ysenia is a flute player in the symphonic band and a member of the PALS Program, TAFE, and FFA. She is a 2 year ACTS Team member and teaches CCD at St. Joseph Catholic Church and assists with CCD at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

 

Ysenia's accomplishments and honors include being a 4 year coyote scholar. She received the All-Academic Award for Varsity Soccer and

straight 1’s at Band Solo and Ensemble.

Mia Andrea Arenas

Mia will be attending Texas State University in Fall 2016 with plans to major in Elementary Education and minor in Special Education. Her plan for the future is to earn a Bachelor’s Degree and become a Kindergarten Teacher.

 

Mia is involved in various clubs and organizations both in and out of school including Band, TAFE and Yearbook. She is the Secretary of the Alice High School Chapter of National Honor Society, a 3 year Girls Soccer Trainer, a member of the PALS program for 2 years and was the Student Council Secretary for 2 years. For the 2014-2015 year, Mia taught 6th grade Religious Education and currently teaches 4th grade Religious Education at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where she is also involved in the Youth Ministries including Vacation Bible School as a Crew Leader and in the Edge Ministry as a team member. Mia is a 2-year team member for the Teen FLAME Retreat and also a Co-Director for this year’s Teen FLAME Retreat.

 

Mia's accomplishments and honors include receiving the Outstanding Youth Leadership Award for 2015-2016 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church along with being chosen to be a CoDirector for the Teen FLAME Retreat. Mia has been in the Alice High School Honors Band for 4 years. Mia is ranked in the top 10% of her Senior Class. She is a State Qualifier for the 2016 TAFE Teach Tomorrow Summit Competition and is honored to be chosen as a Teen of the Week.

Joslin Benavidez

Joslin plans to graduate from Alice High School with her Class of 2016. She then plans to attend Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to attend the College of Nursing in Health Science for a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and become a registered nurse. She may even pursue a Master's degree in Nursing. 
 
Joslin is a member of the National Honor Society, FCCLA, and Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA). She is the 2015-2016 HOSA treasurer.
 
Joslin's accomplishments and honors include becoming a CNA, and she is also CPR certified. Last year, Joslin was a state qualifier in HOSA competition and has not yet competed this year. Joslin received a certificate of recognition with the Close Up Foundation's Washington and NY program. Finally, with thanks to Mrs. Celina Garcia, Joslin is certified in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel.

After completing orthodontics school, she would like to work for a small, private owned company and then someday open her own business.

Marlina's accomplishments and honors include induction to the National Honor Society Junior year, Historian for Student Council (2014-2015). Marlina also went to the State competition for National History Day in 2015 and she was a State Qualifier for T.A.F.E. in 2014.

Dustin has narrowed down what he intends to study in college to S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related majors, namelybiochemical engineering or maybe even something physics, just out of interest. As for colleges, he is still undecided but has looked into those here in Texas as well as several out of state schools. Dustin hopes to be accepted into one within a reasonable financial range.

 

ln addition to being in the Academic Octathlon/Decathlon Program all four years, Dustin is also a member of the AHS National Honor Society, as well as aVarsity Swimmer, National FFA Organization animal exhibitor (showing steers, lambs, and goats) in the Jim

Wells County Fair since the 5th grade, and a UIL Social Studies Team competitor.

 

Dustin's accomplishments and honors include Regional and State Octathlon Team champions 2013, placed 9th as a team at Decathlon State meet2014, placed 9th individually at Social studies UIL State meet 2014 and 3rd as a team, placed 2nd as a team at Decathlon State meet 2015, and placed3rd as a team at Social Studies UIL State meet 2015.

Serena is a member of SkillsUSA, FCCLA, Strutters, NHS, and a member of the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE). Serena is an AHS Strutter Officer (Major), and SkillsUSA President.
 
Serena's accomplishments and honors include being District Champion in Commercial Baking, State Champion in Commercial Baking, a National Participant in Commercial Baking in Louisville, Kentucky, a 2 year NHS member, a 4 year AHS Strutter (2nd year Strutter Officer), and Serena is in the top 10% of her class.

EJ hopes to attend a four year university and plans to major in Business or Biology for his undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin or Texas Tech University in the Fall of 2016. EJ plans to be a business consultant or a dentist. He is interested in both the business and medical field.
 
EJ is a two year member of the National Honor Society (NHS) and is the current NHS Vice-President. He was a member of the Alice High School Marching Band and Honors Band for three years. EJ is the President of Interact Club and Vice-President of the Environmental Club. EJ is also in HOSA-Future Health Professionals, Operation Graduation, and a past Junior Class/Prom Crew member.
 
EJ's accomplishments and honors include being a Coyote Scholar (Top 20), History Fair State Qualifier (Documentary Division), President of Interact Club, elected Vice-President of National Honor Society (NHS) and Environmental Club, 2014 Carnegie Hall Performer, Marching Band State Qualifier, District and Regional Qualifier for band, CPR Certified, and was the 2015 Junior Prom Prince. EJ has also had the privilege to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) and the McCombs Future Executive Academy (MFEA) at The University of Texas at Austin.

Allison is Captain of the Cheerleading team, a two year varsity powerlifter and a member of National Honor Society and HOSA-Future Health Professionals.
 
Allison's accomplishments and honors include being awarded 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 Outstanding Girl Powerlifter, 1st in the State of Texas Region 5 Division 1 Powerlifting, three time All-American Cheerleader and was asked to staff UCA Cheer Camps.

Meagan plans to attend a university and major in either business management or political science. She would like to travel more of the world and experience other cultures.
 
Meagan is the 2015 - 2016 President of the Alice High School chapter of the National Honor Society. This is her second year in National Honor Society. She has been in the high school Drama club all four years and has been on the Varsity Drama Team for three years. She is a member of the Alice High School chapter of the International Thespian Society, inducted Spring 2014.

Stacey plans to attend The Arts Institutes of San Antonio and earn a 4 year bachelor's degree in Culinary. She has always enjoyed cooking, and at The Art Institutes they have hands on experience in the kitchen; along with an actual job on campus that will pay her for cooking.

Stacey has been in tennis all four years of high school, this year Stacey has taken 3rd place twice, and 1st place consolation. Stacey enjoys being in Student Council as well. This year is her first year in the Spanish Club and it has been quite an experience. Art Club brings Stacey much joy and students take pride in their work, in some eyes others might not see what Art Club members see but art comes in many forms. Stacey has been a member of the National Honor Society since sophomore year. This year is her final year and will receive a white collar.

In tennis, Stacey has received 3rd place twice and 1st place consolation and fought hard to earn these medals. Although she may have not of gotten 1st or 2nd in pros, Stacey was grateful to even receive a medal. Stacey also received an award for the National Honor Society for most hours out of the whole organization.

Book: Fault in our Stars, I’ll admit I love sad books it just has that reality feeling how hard life really is for some people and how they can get through things.

Ben's accomplishments and honors include receiving a Division I on his solo & ensemble performance freshman and sophomore year. During his sophomore year, Ben was inducted into the National Honor Society and the following year was inducted into the International Thespian Society. During Ben's junior year of high school at the One Act Play (OAP) competition, he received an award for being the “best techie” from AHS school’s OAP team.

Kathryn is a former member of Student Council and Environmental Club, and was inducted into National Honor Society at the end of her sophomore year. She was a member of the AHS marching band for freshman and sophomore years, and was a Drum

Major junior and senior years. Kathryn has also been a flute player in the Honors Band since she was a freshman.

 

Kathryn's accomplishments and honors include being named a Coyote Scholar in 2013 and a National History Day State Qualifier in 2014. In the 2013-2014 school year, Kathryn had the privilege of being a part of the state qualifying AHS marching band that competed in the preliminary competition at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. That same school year, Kathryn had the honor of performing at the most prestigious concert hall in the world, Carnegie Hall, with the AHS Honors band on May 23, 2014.

She is the Secretary of the Alice High School Chapter of National Honor Society, a 3 year Girls Soccer Trainer, a member of the PALS program for 2 years and was the Student Council Secretary for 2 years. For the 2014-2015 year, Mia taught 6th grade Religious Education and currently teaches 4th grade Religious Education at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where she is also involved in the Youth Ministries including Vacation Bible School as a Crew Leader and in the Edge Ministry as a team member. Mia is a 2-year team member for the Teen FLAME Retreat and also a Co-Director for this year’s Teen FLAME Retreat.
