National Honor Society

Purpose: To create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in all Alice High School students.

How is membership determined: Membership in this chapter is based on scholarship, community service, leadership, character, and attendance. To become members, students must have a 4.0 GPA, be enrolled in two pre-AP or AP classes each semester, and be involved in two or more unrelated extra-curricular activities. During the spring semester of a student's sophomore, junior, or senior year, the candidate's teachers will evaluate the student on service, leadership, character, and attendance. The evaluation along with the other requirements will determine if he or she will be inducted during the April or May lnduction Ceremony.

HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER

A sophomore, junior or senior student with a minimum GPA of 4.0 or higher are eligible for induction.  Members must maintain a 4.0 cumulative GPA.

  • Once a student is eligible to be considered, he or she must meet the following requirements:

    • ACTIVE membership in two or more unrelated school sponsored extracurricular activities.
    • Enrollment in at least 2 Honors, AP, and/or dual credit classes during a school year. 
    • No record of in-school suspension, off-campus suspension, DAEP.
    • A teacher evaluation average of 4.20 or higher (without rounding). The student’s teachers of record will evaluate the student based on character (30%), leadership (30%), service (30%), and attendance (10%). If the student does not meet the 4.20 (without rounding) average the first time the scores are calculated, then the sponsor will drop the highest and lowest scores from each category. If the score is a 4.1 or below, the student will not be eligible for NHS Induction.
    • Graduate with a total of at least 8 Honors, AP, and/or dual credit classes on their transcript.
