Alice High School Symphonic Band – UIL Sweepstakes Achievement

The Alice High School Symphonic Band proudly earned a UIL Sweepstakes Award in April 2024. A UIL Sweepstakes is the highest honor a band can receive at the University Interscholastic League Concert & Sight-Reading Contest. To achieve this distinction, a band must earn a majority of first division (superior) ratings from judges in both its concert performance and sight-reading evaluation.

This award continues Alice High School’s rich tradition of musical excellence. Under the leadership of legendary director Bryce Taylor, who served as band director for 50 years, the Alice band program achieved 29 consecutive UIL Sweepstakes Awards and placed among the top five schools in Class 5A twelve times at the TMEA Honor Band Auditions.

Alice High School was also one of the first five schools in the nation to receive the prestigious Sudler Flag of Honor, recognizing sustained excellence in concert performance.

The 2024 Sweepstakes Award reflects both the legacy of success and the continued dedication of Alice High School’s students, directors, and community to musical achievement.
